Hyperkeratotic Acral Melanoma Mimicking a Common Wart
Acral melanoma is a great pretender; anything but i nfrequently, it adopts clinical faces, simulating skin conditions that make the healthcare provider diagnose it as a benign disease of the palms, soles, and ungual regions. We present a case of a hyperkeratotic acral melanoma that has been misdiagnosed and that has led to an amputation of the thumb.
متن کاملAcral melanoma with hyperkeratosis mimicking a pigmented wart
Acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM) of the sole sometimes has a hyperkeratotic appearance and mimics a pigmented wart. We report a case of an 81-year-old woman with an ALM on the left sole with hyperkeratosis. Due to its presentation it was difficult to make a correct diagnosis at the beginning. Finally we noticed several small, pigmented macules around the wart-like lesion with the parallel ridge...
متن کاملAmelanotic malignant melanoma in an acral location.
We present the case of a 74-year-old white female admitted to the Department of Dermatology because of a tumor in the IV-V interdigital area of her right foot. A crimson, dome-shaped tumor with a granular, spongy surface (diameter 4 cm) had developed over a period of about 3 months. The biopsy, stained with H and E, revealed an anaplastic malignant tumor. Additional immunochemical staining with...

DERMOSCOPIC APPEARANCE The dermoscopic analysis (Fig 2) revealed peripheral dotted vessels, linear irregular vessels, milky red areas, and white streaks, suggestive of melanoma. However, there were no structures or vascular patterns found in cutaneous epitheliomas, such as leaf-like areas, blue-gray ovoid nests, or arborizing or glomerular vessels. It is noteworthy that no brown, black, gray, o...
متن کاملAmelanotic Acral Melanoma Associated with KIT Mutation and Vitiligo
Amelanotic acral melanoma is rare and difficult to diagnose, both clinically and pathologically. KIT mutations are frequently found in acral melanomas and are considered a risk factor for poor prognosis. The presence of vitiligo in melanoma has been reported, and KIT is thought to be partly responsible for the dysfunction and loss of melanocytes observed in vitiligo. We report a case of amelano...
